X3D chips stack extra L3 cache on the CPU. That is proven to help many game clients and some server workloads. For game servers, the public evidence is thin, and this page says how thin.

**Quick answer — Is a Ryzen X3D dedicated server better for game-server hosting?**

Sometimes. A Ryzen X3D dedicated server doubles the L3 cache: 128 MB on the 9950X3D against 64 MB on the 9950X. That helps cache-hungry game logic. But we found no controlled public test of game-server tick time on current X3D chips, and forum tests are mixed. **Lumenfer** rents no X3D; its AMD Ryzen 9 9950X plan costs $205.27, no KYC, paid in crypto.

## Which X3D chips exist, and what does AMD list for them?

*AMD product pages and EPYC 4004 data sheet, read 1 November 2026. EPYC 4004 launch date from AMD's press release of 21 May 2024.*

| CPU | Class | Cores | L3 cache | Max boost | Default TDP | Launched |

| EPYC 4585PX | Server, Zen 5 | 16 | 128 MB | 5.7 GHz | 170 W | 13 May 2025 |

## What does 3D V-Cache change on a server?

It adds a layer of L3 cache on top of a compute die, so more of a program's working data stays next to the cores. Code that keeps missing the cache and waiting on RAM gains the most.

On the 9950X3D, only one of the two 8-core dies carries the extra cache, as Phoronix describes it in its March 2025 review. A game server process scheduled on the other die does not see it.

Linux 6.13 and later include AMD's 3D V-Cache Optimizer driver for these chips, according to the same review. On a host you control, pin each game-server process to the cache die with `taskset` or a cgroup cpuset, then measure.

**On a 9950X3D, half the cores sit under the big cache; a game server that lands on the other half gets none of the benefit.**

## Is there proof that X3D makes game servers faster?

Not for current chips, as far as we found. The large reviews measure frame rates on game clients and a wide mix of desktop and server work, not server tick time.

Phoronix ran about 400 Linux benchmarks on the 9950X3D (11 March 2025). It came out slightly faster than the 9950X overall, with clear gains in HPC codes, the ClickHouse database and srsRAN. It was 25% faster than the 7950X3D. In February 2025, the 8-core 9800X3D took first place in about 14% of 402 Phoronix test cases, against 50% for the 9950X.

The nearest game-server test we found is a forum post on Level1Techs (8 July 2024). It compared a Ryzen 7 5800X with a 5800X3D on Minecraft workloads, without a large player load. The X3D chip led on entities; the plain chip led on redstone and world generation. The author saw no clear winner.

**Until someone publishes a controlled tick-time test, paying extra for X3D in game hosting is a bet, not a measured gain.** Lumenfer has not tested this either, and publishes no benchmarks. Measure ticks per second or milliseconds per tick on your own map, mods and player count. The method is in [where to find honest dedicated server benchmarks](https://lumenfer.com/dedicated-server-benchmarks/ "How to benchmark a rented server yourself").

## What matters more than cache for game hosting?

For most hosts, four things come before cache:

- **Per-core clock.** All 16-core AM5 chips above reach 5.7 GHz, X3D or not, per AMD. On Zen 4 the X3D part gave up base clock, 4.2 GHz against 4.5 GHz on the 7950X. On Zen 5 both run at 4.3 GHz.
- **Memory per instance.** RAM, not cache, sets how many servers fit on one box. Sizing per game is in [what server you need for CS2 or Rust](https://lumenfer.com/cs2-rust-server-hosting-requirements/ "CS2 and Rust server requirements") and [the best CPU for a Minecraft server](https://lumenfer.com/best-cpu-for-minecraft-server/ "Minecraft hosting CPU choice").
- **DDoS exposure.** Game servers draw attacks. DDoS protection is limited to whatever the datacenter network applies by default; nothing further is promised.
- **The operating system.** Linux images only: Debian, Ubuntu, AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux, plus Proxmox VE for running virtual machines on the hardware. Windows is not offered. Check that your game's server software runs on Linux.

## Where can you rent an X3D server, and at what price?

Few hosts that take crypto had one ready on 30 October 2026. Most X3D lines we found were out of stock, needed ID, or left the IPv4 address unstated.

Monthly billing, list prices of 30 October 2026, EUR amounts at 1 EUR = 1.1172 USD (ECB, 30 October 2026). Bracketed prices spread the setup fee over 12 months. MonoVM, 1Gbits and Bacloud route some crypto payments through Cryptomus/Heleket, under UK sanctions since 8 October 2026. Hetzner takes bank transfer, card, PayPal and SEPA only.

## What does Lumenfer offer game hosts instead of X3D?

Two high-clock AM5 plans with full root access and a named CPU:

- Lumen 16: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X, 16 cores / 32 threads, 128 GB DDR5, $205.27 per 30 days. It costs less than every 128 GB X3D server in the table that could be ordered with crypto.
- Lumen 8: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, 8 cores / 16 threads, 64 GB DDR5, $109.37 per 30 days, for a smaller fleet.

Delivery keeps pace with hosts that hold ready stock. In Lumenfer's check of 30 October 2026, sellers that state a setup time promised a median of 24 hours. Their promises ran from 30 minutes to 10 business days. Lumenfer's own promise reads: A few minutes after the payment confirms, and never past the one-hour mark.

## X3D servers for game hosting: FAQ

### Does X3D help a Minecraft server?

In some parts of the tick. The Level1Techs forum test of July 2024 found the 5800X3D ahead on entity-heavy loads and behind on redstone and world generation. That was one small test on older chips, so measure on your own world.

### Is the EPYC 4584PX an X3D chip?

Yes. AMD's EPYC 4004 data sheet lists the 4584PX and 4484PX under processors with 3D V-Cache. The 4584PX has 16 cores, 128 MB of L3 cache and a 120 W TDP, the same figures AMD gives for the Ryzen 9 7950X3D.

### Does X3D use more power?

Not much. AMD lists 120 W for the 7950X3D and 170 W for the 9950X3D, the same as the plain 9950X. Phoronix measured the 9950X3D's power draw close to the 9950X's across its tests.

### Does Lumenfer protect game servers against DDoS attacks?

No. DDoS protection is limited to whatever the datacenter network applies by default; nothing further is promised. For titles that draw attacks, route players through a scrubbing provider, or rent from a host that sells mitigation.

### How many game instances fit on one Lumenfer box?

As many as its RAM and cores carry. You get the whole machine with root over SSH, or Proxmox VE for virtual machines. No hypervisor and no neighbours: all cores, all memory and every NVMe drive of the machine work for you alone.

Lumenfer: Lumenfer rents current-generation bare-metal servers in Amsterdam, Reykjavik, Zurich and Bucharest, paid in crypto with no KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents. Every machine has a CPU launched in 2022 or later, DDR5 memory and NVMe drives, and is rented whole by one customer with root access. It is run by DomaineGoat LLC, a Panama company that ignores DMCA notices, answers only to Panamanian law, allows Tor exit relays and keeps no logs. On the 30-day term, every plan is priced at least 25% under a named comparable current-generation server from 13 no-KYC crypto hosts, read on 30 October 2026.
